This is a beautiful, 'old-school' turntable which is not seen too often. Newer than his ancestors L75 and L78, this is belt-driven and uses an SME-like tonearm that is very lightweight.
It's a semi-automatic, which means the platter stops to rotate when the end of the record is reached. There's no automic arm-lift, this means the stylus will rest in the groove 'til you move it up.
When the motor is stopped, the cable from the pickup to the amp is interrupted. That's very convenient, but not a guarantee for good sound... One of the first steps to improve performance of this player will be to exchange the signal-cable.
Besides that, it's a very nice player that works well with the old Elac-pickup I bought it with.

Charming Lenco L450.

Have a look at the Lenco homepage. They still sell something they call turntable... uahh!

Tonearm Base Headshell with Elac EMM130

Another step for better sound would be to mount the transformer into a separate frame outside the turntable. It seems to induce some hum into the pickup (was much worse with a AT95 I tried).
As one can see, the construction of this turntable is very solid, each and every screw is secured with lacquer. Where do you find that in recent turntables?

A copy of the manual/datasheet can be obtained here.
