Windows CE
a system much better than most people think it is. At least on my cheap equipment.
I bought my first CE device only a while ago, a Philips Nino 301, discontinued by Philips for quite a while now.
It's got a simple greyscale display, a few buttons and stuff. But it was much cheaper than any ipaq or whatever and it does everything I want. Yes, my PDA-slave.
So I was forced to look for ancient CE software, because the Nino runs on v2.01.
It's no problem to get some software for your brandnew, several-hundred-bucks PDA, but there's not too much software for those old systems, you have to follow a few hundred links to collect a few usable programs
So I'll present my 'personal' choice of CE 2.01 programs, tested to run on a Philips Nino (it's a MIPS cpu, by the way). Try to remember
the times, when programs where coded efficiently in a few kilobytes... still to be found in CE.
Unnecessary to say that this is all 'free' software.

MS Active Sync v3.5

Although it's a Mircosoft product, it's your tool of choice if you want your PDA and PC to talk together (not mentioning security-backups etc...).

Software Update 1

'Service Pack' for the Nino. Fixes a few bugs. There's a second Software-Update, too. But it caused more problems than it had benefits, so I deinstalled it. If you think you need it, email me. 715K

mocha-ppp

A PPP-'proxy', which enables your PDA to connect to the desktop-PC via PPP or even to the internet, if the host has a connection to the internet. Really fabulous tool ! 142K

dsNotepad v1.1

A very simple notepad-like program. It's only 14K !

HtmlEdit

Small html-editor. Okay, I'm not sure if it's necessary to edit html on a PDA, but why not? 206K

KillMe

Task-Manager for CE. Unfortunately Mircosoft thought it's not necessary to implement 'Exit' buttons in CE programs so you definitely need a taskmanager. This is a very small one and it works perfect. 161K

SpreadCE

Maybe it seems to be a strange idea to work on Excel-sheets on a PDA, but it works very well. This program is very good, supporting most of Excel's functions and formula. More than you ever need on a PDA.
There's a german version also.

TascalExplorer

CE 2.01 comes with no equivalent to the Windows-Explorer. This one from TascalSoft is very handy. 57K

TascalRegEdit

That's the same with a registry-editor. Use Tascal's RegEdit instead. 65K

Ultraviolet HTMLeditor

Another nice html-editor, differs in a few features from HtmlEdit. 21K

WinCE ModemDriver

IR-ModemDriver to connect your PDA to your mobile phone. I think this one's espacially for the Nokia 8210 (I'm not sure...). What I know is, it works fine with my 8210. Makes it possible to go online (yes, with a Nino, believe it or not) via your cellphone. A short description is here. 82K
